Brathay Easter Bazaar | 30 Mar 2013

The Brathay Trust in association with Sure to Surprise You and Gandhi's Flip-Flop are organising an Easter Bazaar event which will incorporate a variety of stalls and activities; lots of fun for all the family!>

The event takes place on Saturday 30th March 2013 from 11am until 5pm and will raise funds for Brathay Trust and Cumbria Citizens Advice Bureau. A number of stalls are still available. Please call 07739 646173 for further information.

Coniston 14 Road Race 2013 | 23rd March

Coniston 14 was first run in 1982 and since then has become a popular spring event in the Lake District. It's probably the most beautiful road race in Britain and each year it attracts some 1600 runners with a reputation for being one of the best organised small races in the country.

The Race is organised by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers from Coniston village and is its largest annual community event. The hilly route follows the 13.875 miles of road that circles Coniston lake and there are stunning views of the surrounding Lake District mountains. Each year over £20,000 is raised and donated to about 30 local charities and clubs. In 2012 £5,000 was raised from Coniston 14 for St. Mary's Hospice in Ulverston.

Bowness Bay Blues Festival | 22nd - 24th March

The Rotary Club of Windermere present the second Bowness Bay Blues Festival, with top-quality blues music in some wonderfully atmospheric venues surrounding Lake Windermere. Featuring: The Ben Poole Band, John O'Leary's Sugarkane, the Grainne Duffy Band, Fuschi4, Snakewater, Tin Pan Alley, Dan Burnett, The Deluxe, Stark, The Bullfrogs, Buzz Elliot and The Elderly Brothers.

Tickets will be on sale from January 2013 via www.bownessbayblues.co.uk. Bowness Bay Blues is organised by the Rotary Club of Windermere, and all profits will go to charity

John Ruskin's former home, Brantwood near Coniston at the heart of the Lake District, is presenting its 12th annual classical music concert series. Performances take place in the Drawing Room.

Wainwright Was Right!

Approaching Nibthwaite Grange & Coniston Water from the south, the view is dominated by the Old Man of Coniston massif where a trip to the summit offers panoramic views and a wealth of local history.

The legendary Alfred Wainwright had some wise words regarding the best route of ascent and in February, some of our Guests at Nibthwaite Grange decided to follows his recommendation and take a rarely trodden path that zig-zags up the eastern flank of the Old Man.

Lakeland Sinfonia 2013

Tea with Peter Rabbit | Friday 15th February

National Nest Box Week at Grizedale | Friday 15th February

Join the Forestry Commission, RSPB and the World Owl Trust on Friday February 15th 2013 for family fun in Grizedale Forest during National Nest Box week.

Meet a barn owl, learn about the owl protection work in the Rusland Valley and make a nest box for your garden. There will also be craft activities led by the RSPB.

Wedding Fayre at St. Mary's Church | Sunday 3rd February

The Wedding Fayre at St. Mary's Church in Windermere will feature everything a bride needs for her big day, including gowns, florists, cars, cakes and much more. There will be free admission and free parking with a glass of bucks fizz on arrival.

Materials of Mountains

The Materials of Mountains is an exhibition by traditional film photographers Angie and David Unsworth at Brantwood's Blue Gallery in Coniston. Angie and David work as a creative partnership within the Lake District, exploring how the 'component parts' of mountain landscape - rock, water, ferns, ice, cloud - can move people beyond the merely representational to a landscape of thought and imaginative engagement.
