A Breath of Fresh air

The decorations are down, mountains of food demolished, entertaining over and it's time to relax! January amongst the Lakeland Fells is a place for quiet contemplation.

Stripped bare of the tourist season crowds the Fells appear wild and untamed. Breaks in the cloud afford atmospheric glimpses of the valleys and tarns below where sheltered woodland tracks can be yours for the day before a pint and a bite to eat in one of our many Cumbrian Hostelries.

Kindred spirits are always welcome at Nibthwaite Grange and if you're looking to recharge your batteries after the festive season and take a well earned breath of fresh Cumbrian air then there's no better place to relax. We are offering a 20% discount on bookings for 2013 made before 1st March and we'll have the fires stoked up in preparation for your arrival!

Hoping to see you again soon.

With best wishes, Andrew & Georgina Clowes

PS: We are delighted to say that the Peat House has been re-awarded 5 Star Status by the English Tourist Board Visit England Five Star Award

Winter's on its way

Autumn brought some wild weather to the Lakes but as ever,  there was plenty to do:

The Holker Hall Winter Fair, the 13th Ulverston Dickensian Festival and the annual Hawkshead Christmas Fair kept our wonderful guests entertained and the spectacular backdrop of the Fall’s woodland colours pleases your eye before you cosy up in front of a roaring fire in the evenings.

Georgiana and I have been looking forward to the advent of winter and a drying up of the earth. Last week we got both with three beautiful cold, bright clear days. The wind was out of the north east and biting cold and at night we had hard frosts. It was a refreshing and cleansing change making for a perfect days walking on the frost-bitten fells or, by the shore of Coniston Water. The hills are now coated in a thick mantle of snow and Winter has well and truly arrived!
